A Monk Walks Into A Bar...

Back in 2014 brewmaster Palmer Quimby approached SLANT seeking a new brand for his new brewing company. His inspiration? Get ready for this: a Monk.

Turns out, the client’s uncle was an Episcopalian Monk who needed a hobby to fill his downtime. He found old brewing supplies in the basement of his abbey and learned to brew. Then he got good at it. And then he taught his nephew the tricks of his trade. Next thing you know, Munkle Brewing was born (followed by a seriously fun branding project at SLANT).

Fast forward to 2017, Munkle Brewing has perfected their recipes and is about to finish construction on their new brewery in downtown Charleston, SC. As a result, SLANT has been tapped (get it?) to expand the brand into the full blown brand identity system with new beer labels, taps, website, merchandise and marketing. The only thing missing? Those free samples he promised us all those years ago.

Christopher Cecil, SLANT founder + creative director, said, “We’re so excited to be working with Munkle again. The creative side of us was totally inspired by the Munkle story, which lead to some really fun designs. And the beer-loving side of us...well...it's BEER!” He then added, “Branding projects for food and bev products are such a fun challenge for us. When you get it just right, consumers will develop that strong affinity for your brand and become your best advocates. We’ve got some great ideas brewing (yes, that was a terrible pun) and can’t wait to help spread Munkle’s awesomeness.”

Munkle Brewing Company will be located in historic downtown Charleston, SC at 1513 Meeting Street Road. They are scheduled to open mid-summer 2017. In the meantime, we’ll be waiting in line with empty steins ready! Stay tuned…
