THE ASK
The City of Spartanburg and the Northside Development Group sought a strategic partner to develop a brand and a rollout marketing campaign for a new early childhood education center in the city’s Northside community.
THE OUTCOME
The name, brand system and plan developed by SLANT helped this early childhood center immediately build interest and trust with local families. Today, The Franklin School has a waiting list and is a key asset in the Northside, not only preparing young children for kindergarten but attracting further interest and investment in the neighborhood.

NAMING & BRAND IDENTITY
The name and brand of the new center needed to communicate “best-in-class” – a place where parents and guardians will want to send their kids knowing they’ll be receiving the best early education services Spartanburg has to offer.
After exploring several avenues for potential name considerations, from history to geography and simple terminology, the very name of the street where the early childhood center was to be located – Franklin Street – provided several unexpected benefits. After identifying a name, the visual elements of the brand explored a bright, fun, and modern approach.
The flower icon with its myriad colors and interlocking shapes represented diversity and individualization, both of which are core components of The Franklin School.
The clean, modern sans-serif typeface and flower provide a visual balance that feels both friendly, approachable and fun with the perfect amount of sophistication. The various colors and overlapping shapes provided creative flexibility for supporting collateral materials, print ads, signage, and website.
SIGNAGE
With such a carefully crafted and executed brand throughout the building, The Franklin School knew signage would be equally important.
We developed both internal and external signage designs to complement the brand and architecture. We then developed detailed fabrication and installation specifications for all required signage to ensure the brand was consistently executed both externally and internally.
